I have plenty of clients that have fur babies that are part of the family. Of course for engagement or wedding photos, some do not want to leave those fuzzy family members out of those important photos.
Here's some tips and tricks on how to approach bringing your fur babies to your photo session.
1. Have A Dog Handler
It's very important to have someone (a friend, parent, or someone your dog loves) to handle your dog during the session. Have the handler walk them around a little bit to familiarize the dog with the location once they arrive.
You'll want them in a few photos but it's important to have them safe and with someone else so you won't be stressed during your session. You can have them bring the dog towards the end of the session if you want.

2. Choose a Dog Friendly Location
Please be sure to choose a location that is dog-friendly. Some gardens and arboretums are beautiful locations, but do not always permit pets. Be sure to check the guidelines or rules for locations beforehand. If we are at a location that doesn't allow dogs, we can capture a few photos at your home or elsewhere . We can then proceed to take photos at a non dog-friendly location.

3. Bring Squeaky Toy or Treats!
Some dogs love squeaky toys and some love treats. Most love both! Definitely bring one of your dog's favorite toys and/or treats for the session. The treats should be special treats that your pet doesn't normally get, but something small enough that we can munch it down in one bite. These will help the handler and myself, grab your dog's attention while you and your fiancé can focus on posing.
4. Your Pup Will do Great - Don't Worry!
Make sure to give them breaks. There's no reason to be nervous about how your dog will act during your session. Your dog does not have to be the best trained dog out there in order to get great photos. Be sure to give them lots of breaks and have water handy for them. Praising them and giving them breaks will give them a chance to reset in between photos.

5. All Eyes and Paws Forward!
Don't worry about getting their attention to the camera. That's my job! I will pose you as a couple, as well as your dog. You won't have to worry about getting their attention to the camera, because we wouldn't want you to miss a photo opportunity! I suggest you and your fiancé focus on one another while the handler and I worry about where the dog is looking.
